Our Story

What if an agency was built around the client — not the agent?

It sounds obvious. But in an industry where agents put their face on billboards and buses, and brag about being number one, it's rarer than you'd think. Every business starts somewhere. Ours started with that one simple, radical idea.

Where it began

Our founding director, Mike, has spent decades in real estate — and for a long time, something didn't sit right.

He has navigated some of the toughest markets New Zealand has ever seen. He's watched the industry at its best, and — honestly — at its worst. He knew he was good at what he did. But more than that, he knew why he did it. And it was never for the accolades, or the commission.

Markets that tested everyone

2008The Global Financial CrisisConfidence evaporated overnight and didn't return for years.
2010–11The Christchurch earthquakesA city — and its property market — rebuilt from the ground up.
2020A global pandemicEvery assumption about how we buy and sell homes, rewritten.

Through all of it, the reason stayed the same. It was for the people.

Forthe family selling the home they'd raised their kids in.
Forthe first-time buyer who didn't know where to start.
Forthe person going through a life change, needing someone genuinely in their corner.

The question was simple, and it wouldn't go away: how do you build a business that makes that the centre of everything?

Finding the name

A few of the team sat down together with one goal — find a name that said everything about who they were, without saying a word about themselves.

They'd originally planned to call the business Your Agency — because that's exactly what it is. But a licensing agreement with their previous brand made that path unavailable. So they went back to the drawing board.

Mike was born in Latin America and speaks Spanish, so the conversation naturally drifted toward Latin and Spanish roots — languages with warmth, depth, and history. And then someone said it.

The room went quiet for a moment.

And then everyone just… knew.

The name says it all

agenté / ah-JEN-tay / noun

1.Someone who acts for another — with purpose, trust, and expertise.

Not for themselves. Not for the commission. For you.

That's not a tagline they came up with in a brainstorm. It was already there, waiting to be found. And the moment it landed, it didn't just feel like a name — it felt like a philosophy. Like the thing they'd been trying to say all along.

Every conversation, every decision, every late night before an open home — it all comes back to one idea. We are here to act in your best interests. Always.

Getting the details right

Once the name felt right, the conversation turned to design. And that's where things got surprisingly deep.

Should the logo be in capitals — bold and commanding? Or lowercase — quieter, more human? It sounds like a small thing. But the team sat with it for a week, because they understood what was really being asked: what connects with people? What doesn't feel corporate?

AGENTE

Confident, yes — but in a way that puts the brand at the centre. Like every other agency.

agenté

Approachable. Warm. A conversation rather than a statement — an agency that doesn't need to shout.

Lowercase it was.

What it means for you

The name, the font, the philosophy — it all comes back to the same thing.

We built agenté for you. Not to win awards or top a leaderboard, but to be the agency that people trust, come back to, and tell their friends about. Because at the end of the day, your outcome is what matters most to us.

That's not a tagline. It's the reason we exist.
