About
Canterbury · West Coast
Acting with purpose, trust & expertise
Why we exist

Not every house is a
quick, easy sale.

No two homes are the same, yet too many agencies treat them that way. A one-size-fits-all approach is easier for the agent — but it rarely delivers the best result for you.

01

Every Property Has a Story

Quirks, history or complexity don't have to cost you money. We deal with potential issues before they become problems, so nothing surfaces at the wrong moment.

02

We Deliver the Best Outcome

We often sell homes for well above the local average. From entry-level to multi-million-dollar properties, we go the extra mile to resolve any potential objections before promoting your property.

03

Your Future Comes First

Selling your home is about your future, and we never lose sight of that. We take the time to understand what a truly good outcome looks like for you — then do whatever it takes to get there.

The agenté difference

Six reasons it
feels different with us.

We built agenté to challenge the perceptions that often give real estate a bad rap. Here's what changes when an agency is built around the client, not the agent.

01 — Always #1

You're always #1

It's never just a transaction to us. We take the time to understand your situation and build everything around what matters most to you.

02 — The non-real-estate agents

The 'non-real estate' agents

People before commission, every time. We built agenté to challenge the perceptions that often give real estate a bad rap.

03 — Great results

All about great results

We prepare properly, present thoroughly, and negotiate hard — and we consistently sell above the local average.

04 — Not afraid of hard

Not scared of a challenge

Earthquake damage, botched repairs, difficult layouts, compromised land, busy locations, lack of privacy — we've seen it all and sold it all.

05 — Extra mile

Ready to go the extra mile

The difference between a price and the best price is a bucket-load of hard work. We bring the skill, strategy and tenacity needed to close that gap.

06 — Straight talk

We never buy business

We tell you what you need to hear, not necessarily what you want to hear — because honesty now is worth more than disappointment later.

Meet Mike

The man behind agenté.

Every business starts somewhere. Ours started with a simple but radical idea — what if a real estate agency was actually built around the client, not the agent?

We don't stop till the job's done.17 years on, the motto stands

It sounds obvious. But in an industry where agents put their face on billboards and buses, and brag about being number one, it's rarer than you'd think.

Helping people is in agenté's DNA

Mike was born in Guatemala and moved to El Salvador as a child. His parents were part of an international mission group that helped rebuild homes after the 1976 Guatemalan earthquakes. Decades later, Mike's mother Helen founded a charity in Nicaragua focused on micro-enterprise training for women in desperate situations.

Mike's introduction to real estate was flipping property to resource his family while founding Pathway Trust — a social enterprise that helps people make a fresh start. Funded by its commercial arm Alloyfold, makers of lightweight folding aluminium chairs (recently fitted out the seating in the Christchurch Stadium). By 2007, Alloyfold was the fastest-growing manufacturer in New Zealand.

But Mike needed a change. Whatever he did had to help people. So he turned to real estate.

Tenacity honed in tough markets

Mike started full-time in real estate in 2009, just after the GFC. Then between September 2010 and December 2011, the Christchurch earthquakes hit. Mike took off his suit, rolled up his sleeves, and helped board up broken homes.

In April 2011 he bought a Mike Pero Real Estate franchise and began his journey of doing real estate differently. He closed one of the very first post-quake sales in Christchurch, and soon had sold signs up at the epicentre of the damage. The skills and tenacity he developed through the GFC and the earthquakes have shaped everything we do.
